About the Cover Image

The image on the cover is from a group of wall paintings found in Pompeii (Naples Museum, 9027). It seems to depict on the left Admetus and Alcestis listening to a figure, who is perhaps explaining the conditions of Admetus’s postponement of death. To the right stands an elderly couple, presumably Admetus’s parents, while in the background Apollo is centrally located, along with an unidentified female figure.
