Accessibility Statement and Feedback
We have designed our textbook to be accessible to all users, including those with disabilities, in line with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA. Specifically, we have tried our best to adhere to the following principles with the goal of promoting broad usability and inclusivity:
- We have structured the content to be as simple to browse as possible and to facilitate navigation via screen readers/keyboard interfaces. We have applied a consistent organizing principle to our headings and subheadings that makes the text easier to follow. The textbook allows for the resizing of the text without loss of functionality.
- We have tried to provide sufficient context wherever we incorporate images and links. Images are accompanied by descriptive alt text. Tables contain appropriate headers and captions. Hyperlinks use descriptive text with clearly signaled meanings. Our content does not rely on color alone to convey meaning.
- We offer our textbook in multiple formats, including web, PDF, and EPUB. The EPUB and digital PDF versions are considered the most accessible formats, as they are created to align closely with WCAG 2.1 AA standards and support assistive technologies such as screen readers. The web version of this textbook is hosted on the Pressbooks platform, which itself has been designed with accessibility in mind and strives to conform to WCAG standards.
We are committed to continually improving this resource by identifying and addressing accessibility barriers and incorporating user feedback (regarding concerns about accessibility, errors in the text, or anything else).
