Print-on-Demand
VIVA currently offers print-on-demand service through our VIVA e-commerce site.
The VIVA e-commerce site offers for sale the print version of resources created by VIVA and its member institutions. All print books are offered at cost, or, in other words, priced to the cost it takes to print the work plus overhead. No profit is made by VIVA or its member institutions for the works hosted on this site. Most books are available for free online; links to open resources are included in the book’s record.
The site contains:
- Books supported through the VIVA Open Grants program that have undergone publishing support from VIVA Publishing
- Books supported through the VIVA Open Grants program that have undergone accessibility remediation and design support through VIVA Publishing
- Books from VIVA Member Institutions
- Books from authors at VIVA Member Institutions
How do I upload to the VIVA e-commerce site?
If you are at a VIVA Member Institution (both individuals and library or publishing programs) and wish to list a book on the VIVA e-commerce site, please reach out to VIVA Publishing. We will need:
- Information about the book (form to be provided)
- Interior of the book (as PDF)
- Cover mechanical of the book (as PDF) – exact dimensions will be provided by VIVA Publishing.

How are prices determined on the VIVA e-commerce site?
All books on the e-commerce site are sold at cost, or the cost it takes to print the book plus overhead. This means, the price includes:
- The price it takes to print (determined on a case-by-case basis depending on size, length, and color vs black and white)
- Handling fee from printer ($1.65/book)
- Fees to run the site (e.g., 10% distribution fee)
So far, all of our books have been between $15 and $30.
In addition to the base price, customers will be asked to pay taxes and shipping fees. Currently, we offer USPS media mail and a variety of speeds through FedEx.

Does VIVA offer desk/instructor copies?
Since our resources are available for free online, VIVA does not provide free desk or instructor copies. Instructors using VIVA resources are welcome to purchase their own copy, use the digital versions, or print their own copy using the files available at the links on each title’s catalog page.
