Part 2 – Exceptionalities addresses the following licensure competencies:

    • Characteristics
    • Instructional strategies

8VAC20-23-540. Special education early childhood (birth-age five years)

Part 3 – Special education practices and processes addresses the following licensure competencies:

8VAC20-23-550. Special education – general curriculum K-12

    •  Management of classroom instruction and behavior
    • Instructional strategies

8VAC20-23-540. Special education early childhood (birth-age five years)

    • Curriculum and instructional programming
    • Social and emotional skills and behavior management

 

Note that an individual seeking a teaching endorsement in special education in Virginia must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution; complete a VDOE-approved program; and satisfy all related licensure assessments. This resources is meant to supplement a credit-bearing course and cannot satisfy licensure requirements on its own. Faculty using this resource are advised to carefully consider content presented here in alignment with their course objectives, accreditation standards, and overall program curriculum.
