85 Homework rubric

Laurie Massery

Your homework assignments must be submitted before the start of class using the platform indicated by your instructor (i.e., Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, etc). Each assignment will be scored on a scale from 1 – 5 (please see descriptions below).

5-4.5 EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS.
The student answers the questions thoroughly, carefully, and appropriately. The student clearly understands the assigned material and is able to discuss it extensively, draw conclusions and express opinions based on available information or additional investigation (if necessary). The student identifies the argument and provides support using tangible examples. The grammatical structures are accurate or mostly accurate, and the use of vocabulary reflects the student’s understanding of vocabulary available in the text.

4-3 MEETS EXPECTATIONS.
The student answers the question sufficiently, though the evidence used to support the argument could be stronger or more thoroughly researched than what is currently available in the submitted work. The student understands the topic though further investigation and comprehension would be beneficial. Grammar structures are somewhat accurate but could be improved. The vocabulary is used appropriately throughout the assignment, though more terms could have been incorporated.

2.5-2 LIMITED.
The student provides very limited information about the topic and there is no support for the argument provided. The grammar structures used in the assignment show progression but do not yet meet expectations required for the post intermediate language level: improvement is needed. More effective use of vocabulary learned in the assigned text(s) could have been integrated with greater frequency and/or accuracy.

1.5-0 NO SUBMISSION OR DOES NOT MEET REQUIREMENTS.
The student submits the homework but only marginally answers the questions, with little to no evidence of original ideas. The grammatical structures used to complete the assignment do not strongly reflect post-intermediate standards. Pertinent vocabulary is either used incorrectly or infrequently.
